Russell was hit by a car while riding his motorbike at 50 mph and was flown to the hospital for emergency surgery. He remembers propping himself against a wall in a long dark tunnel with cave-like damp walls and stone paving floors. He was in severe pain, falling and banging into the tunnel sides while walking toward a bright warm light at the end, surrounded by an archway. Upon entering the light, all pain disappeared and he felt peaceful. He heard a familiar voice he couldn't identify. He then observed himself from above in the ICU with his parents holding his hand and his mother crying, which upset him. He could see ten beds with ill patients and a nurse's station. He was clinically dead for two minutes and had a breathing tube when in ICU. Doctors dismissed his experience as a drug reaction, but Russell knows what happened was real.
