Six-year-old Philippe was at his relatives' home in Toulon during summer holidays. While trying to swim in the pool, he slipped from the last step and was immediately driven to the bottom, sliding down the slope to the middle of the pool. Unable to swim, he sat at the bottom looking up at the surface where sunlight created moving patterns through the water's undulations. He felt no fear or panic and made no attempt to swim up.
As he grew very cold and shut his eyes, he found himself outside the pool, flying several meters above it, seeing his body deep underwater. He felt no panic or fear at this sight, only acceptance and loss of interest in his physical body. He then "swiveled" without having actual shape and entered what he describes as being "into a white color" - bathing in white in a state of supreme serenity, total perfection and fullness where time didn't exist. This seemed to last ages though time was suspended. The white briefly dissolved into red-orange like a sunset before he suddenly returned to his body underwater. He heard a strong noise and saw someone diving toward him who lifted him by his armpits. His mother's cousin had seen him at the bottom, initially thinking he could swim, but after alerting the parents who confirmed he couldn't swim, rushed back to rescue him. The experience led him to reject Catholic religious education due to not seeing traditional religious imagery, eventually turning to Buddhism after discovering similarities to his experience. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The out-of-body experience demonstrates consciousness separate from the physical body, consistent with biblical dualism. The transcendent white realm of perfect peace could represent a divine dimension or heavenly antechamber. The absence of fear in death and the transformative spiritual seeking afterward show spiritual awakening. His conclusion that traditional Christian teachings were "lies" because his experience differed shows rejection of biblical authority.
