Orson experienced a severe asthma attack with closure of breathing passages while in an ambulance arriving at the hospital. He recalled the ambulance attendant slapping his face saying "come on boy! You're going to make it" before everything went black. In the emergency department, while unconscious, he still heard a nurse saying in Portuguese "There's still one more beat supporting life."
During his unconscious state, Orson found himself in a fast-moving stream approaching rocks at the edge of falls. He could see vegetation on the opposite bank in vivid autumnal colors. The water was warm, he felt very comfortable and not scared at all. The experience ceased just before he was about to go over the edge of the falls. He still feels slight disappointment that he didn't "shoot the falls." This was a life-threatening respiratory emergency requiring emergency transport and treatment.
