Melvin H was electrocuted by 7,200 volts while changing electrical transformers at building #445. The current entered through his right middle finger and exited through both feet, burning his footprints into the concrete. He was slammed against the building so hard that paint was embedded in his jacket. His tool buddy Rocky dragged his body out and began CPR while the work leader said "what's the use, he's dead." During his five minutes of clinical death, Melvin observed the scene from 20-30 feet above, watching Rocky work on his body. He then journeyed over building #100 (the "Taj Mahal"), accurately describing elaborate roof tiles he'd never seen. He traveled through a dark tunnel toward brilliant light that didn't hurt to look at, passing scenes from his life on either side. He saw deceased loved ones including his grandfather who died in 1943. He called out to them but they couldn't hear him. As he approached the brilliant light that appeared as a fog, he was about to enter when Rocky and a young female airman successfully revived him. Initially, people thought he was crazy when sharing his experience, but it brought him closer to his church and helped him comfort grieving families.
