Michael S experienced two separate NDEs in childhood. At age seven, while rocking on a chair, he fell backward and struck his skull on a drawer handle corner, causing severe bleeding that hit the ceiling. His mother initially thought he was joking until she saw the blood. During transport following an ambulance, Michael found himself floating above the family's brown two-door convertible, observing himself between his grandmother's legs with a cloth over his head. He could see his mother crying and driving while his grandmother held him and appeared to be praying. Everything had a white glow outlining objects. He retained this out-of-body perspective until awakening during bandaging. His second NDE occurred at age nine during tonsil surgery when he had an allergic reaction to anesthesia. Paralyzed and unable to open his eyes, he felt himself shoot upward into clusters of black and white, then rapidly descend to observe his body from the room's corner. He saw his father holding an unwrapped Wilson basketball. Upon awakening, he shocked everyone by asking specifically about the Wilson basketball, which his father had never mentioned by brand name.
