Melinda experienced an NDE during a head-on auto collision on May 27, 1974, at age 18. She was comatose for one week following the accident. During the experience, she saw the hospital emergency room from outside her body. She encountered beings and a mystical light, passed through a tunnel toward peaceful light, and experienced incredible joy and unity with everything. She received visions of her future daughter. She initially did not want to return but understood she had to. The experience eliminated her fear of death and gave her certainty about afterlife. It changed her life direction - she wanted to join Peace Corps to help others, something she never would have considered before. When her mother was dying years later, she could assure her with certainty she would be okay.
