Earl was a self-employed stained glass contractor driving to a church at 8am on December 27, 1977, to bid on new windows. While going around a curve, he saw a logging truck in the opposite lane when suddenly a car came around the truck into his lane, causing a collision. His face was shattered and cut in the accident. Earl immediately had an out-of-body experience, floating above the accident scene and watching two ambulance attendants remove him from his pickup truck.
He clearly heard the attendants say, "Well, we don't have to worry about this one," indicating they believed he was dead or dying. The scene then began getting dark, and Earl started moving faster and faster through what felt like a dark tunnel. He saw a pinpoint of light that grew brighter and brighter until he came to a sudden stop. He found himself standing and facing the most perfect person he had ever seen - the light was coming from this being, who WAS the light itself. Earl recognized this being as Jesus Christ and experienced the most wonderful feeling of peace. Jesus said to him, "I'm sorry, you can't stay, there is something you must do." Earl then found himself lying on a table with a nurse asking if he knew who he was. He was sent by ambulance to see a specialist who spent an hour sewing up his shattered face. Remarkably, he was back at work the next day. Twenty-five years later when submitting his account, Earl still wondered what it was he was supposed to do. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: Earl's experience is profoundly biblical, featuring a direct encounter with Jesus Christ whom he recognized immediately.
