In January 1969, Mark D was competing in an indoor rodeo bull riding event when he drew what he called "the baddest bucking bull on earth" - the PRCA bucking bull of the year. The bull exploded out of the chute with a high jump, and the landing force threw Mark forward. As the bull came up, it struck Mark's chest, then began spinning. On the third spin, Mark was flung toward the outside and hit the chute gate with his head. His father described it as "like jumping out of a moving truck into a brick wall." Mark went straight down the gate and was knocked unconscious for over three hours.
During his unconscious state, Mark found himself up on the ceiling, approximately 40-50 feet high, looking down at the arena scene below. He watched as his rodeo equipment was removed from his body, observing it going in different directions, which worried him. He watched the ambulance back into the arena and observed them placing him inside. While floating above, he was aware of a tremendous, brilliant light behind him that was brighter than the building lights. Something told him not to look back into the light, and he obeyed this inner voice. He describes feeling worry-free except for concern about his gear, experiencing incredible peace and joy, and feeling united with the world. He understood everything about the universe during this time. He woke up three hours later in the hospital and remarkably rode in a different rodeo event the next night. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: Mark's out-of-body experience with observation from above aligns with biblical accounts of spiritual vision.
