Donna was born a "blue baby" with a hole in her heart and underwent open-heart surgery at age five at Children's Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. During the surgery, she experienced clinical death and a profound NDE that she remembers vividly decades later. She left her body and was fully aware she was no longer in her physical form. Looking around the operating room, she saw the doctors, nurses, and equipment from above.
As she rose higher, Donna was met by a being of pure light with no physical form - just brilliant white light that didn't hurt to look at despite its intensity. This being enveloped her, and though she had no body herself, she melded with the light. She could hear distant voices but couldn't understand the words, like chatter in a crowded room. Despite being only five years old, she felt no fear, only conscious awareness of events. While enveloped in the light, she experienced profound love and peace without any pain or sorrow. The being stayed with her until it was time to return, saying "It is time to go back now" before pulling away. She wasn't given a choice about returning. Upon re-entering her body, she woke in recovery with transfusion tubes still in her sides but felt good without pain. After this experience, Donna developed remarkable abilities including knowing when people would die, premonitive dreams, and feeling others' emotions and physical pain. She had accurate premonitions about deaths including her great-uncle, best friend, and grandfather.
