During a summer vacation in 1964 at Dewy Dam near Van Lear, Kentucky, Lois had a profound NDE while drowning. Unable to swim, she was playing in shallow water when she stepped backward off an underwater ledge into deep water. After initially struggling and breaching the surface a couple times, she stopped struggling and experienced extraordinary peace with no fear. Everything became extremely beautiful underwater - she saw colors that don't exist, with lights that were sparkling, bright yet soft and inviting. She felt she was part of these lights and colors, experiencing profound peace and connection with the universe. She experienced timelessness - the freedom of no boundaries of time. During an out-of-body experience, she floated above and observed her mother in the boat yelling at her father to pull her out, while her father laughed thinking she was just playing. She saw herself pop up above water appearing panicked and struggling, which puzzled her because she actually wanted to stay underwater where everything was beautiful and amazing. When her father finally pulled her out, she felt incredibly heavy returning to her body. She felt disappointment about being taken from such a wonderful place.
