As a young child in 1968, M.R. was chasing ducks at a lake when he tripped and fell face-down into the water, immediately becoming unconscious. During his clinical death from drowning, he experienced a profound near-death experience with multiple classic elements. He found himself in a tunnel of extremely bright white light that did not hurt his eyes, with a man standing to his right at an entrance that was round at the top and flat at the bottom. The figure was an older man wearing a large-rimmed hat, white long-sleeved shirt, dark tie, pants and shoes - someone he did not recognize but was not afraid of. Simultaneously, he had an out-of-body experience where he observed his lifeless body from an aerial view as his sister pulled him from the lake and alerted adults. He watched the entire resuscitation scene unfold from above, seeing all the commotion as they worked to bring him back to life. He experienced incredible peace, joy, and a sense of unity with the universe, feeling that time did not exist. He next remembered waking up in a hospital bed with cartoons playing on television, with no memory of being transported from the lake.
