Lewis suffered a depressed skull fracture with multiple hematomas and profuse bleeding after a fall. He was transported by life-flight helicopter where medical staff noted they were "losing him" and administered emergency treatment. At that moment, everything went black - a darkness he could feel. He then saw a ball of light moving closer to him, perfectly round with twinkles in it. A strong-looking hand and arm came into view reaching for the light, while a low voice said "I have everything under control." Lewis felt he was somehow part of this light. All fear left him and he felt restful. His entire life's events flashed before him at incredible speed, including forgotten faults. He understood that everything is simpler than he had thought. The experience has removed his fear of death.
