Leonie experienced two NDEs. The first occurred as a newborn when she contracted Golden Staph infection and was "gone" for several minutes. She has no memory of this event. The second NDE occurred at age 5 when she was hit by a car and suffered a head injury. During this experience, she had a clear out-of-body experience where she observed the accident scene from above with a glowing female spirit guide. She saw her father (recently returned from Vietnam) in his soldier's uniform cradling her and crying, her mother on her knees swaying and crying. She observed specific details including her father's crisp uniform, her mother's soft floral pink dress with individual flowers visible, the cream/yellow ambulance, and the paramedics' white shirts and dark indigo trousers. She was joined by her two grandmothers (one she had never met, one who had died 18 months prior). She felt surrounded by love and warmth and made the conscious decision to return for her parents' sake. Upon returning, she experienced pain and briefly saw a bright funnel shape on the operating table.
