Lala experienced a heart attack on March 28, 2007, beginning at 4 AM with sharp pain in her head and chest. After going to the bathroom, she passed out for approximately twenty seconds and had an out-of-body experience where she saw herself from the ceiling with her body lying on the floor. She returned to her body and called 911. Later in the hospital emergency room while lying on her bed, she felt something touching her hair and opened her eyes to see her grandmother who had passed away long ago. Her grandmother told her to light five candles. Lala felt her grandmother's physical weight on the bed and felt the bed move when she left. During the experience, she entered an unearthly realm with light, felt overwhelming love, didn't want to come back, felt she understood everything about the universe, saw her past flash before her, and reached some kind of boundary. The experience has resulted in changed values and beliefs. She described the out-of-body experience as the best part of her experience, while the physical pain that night was the worst.
