Ed was driving home at 60mph when his steering gearbox failed, causing his van to flip three to four times in mid-air before landing back on its wheels. During this accident, Ed experienced a profound near-death experience. He found himself in a peaceful state with nice temperature, then opened his eyes to see the brightest light he had ever seen. He was at a gate-like opening in the light when a voice said, "It is not your time, you have something to do yet."
At that moment, Ed was turned around and could see his van and through it, observing his body slumped over the steering wheel. This represents a clear out-of-body experience with visual observation of his physical form. He then experienced flying back down to his body. When he re-entered his body, he regained physical consciousness and was able to get help.
