Joseph V experienced an NDE at age 8 in July 1952 at a summer camp swimming pool. While waiting in line at the diving board, he was overcome with fear. When someone pushed him off the board, he went under twice before being surrounded by a beautiful white light. He found himself in a tunnel with vision that was different from normal seeing - like seeing without knowing what you're seeing.
Before this experience, Joseph had been an angry boy, traumatized by witnessing his father's paralyzing stroke at age 4. After the NDE, he became calmer and less angry but lost all competitive drive, refusing to compete with anyone over anything for the rest of his life. He feels uncomfortable when forced to compete. Joseph waited decades to share this experience publicly. He returned to the experience once while in church, when the bright light came flooding back momentarily before disappearing forever. He developed a deep thirst for knowledge across physics, cosmology, history, and technology.
