John was in a wood shop class when another student named Chip dangerously increased the speed of a lathe Jim was using from 600 RPM to 3500 RPM. The wooden salad bowl being worked on shattered, with pieces hitting John in the head and face, knocking him unconscious. He fell to the floor and entered a coma that lasted six days. During the incident, John experienced being above the scene, looking down at all the people in the room. He had heightened awareness, understanding everything about the universe, and experienced time distortion. He saw beings, felt surrounded by mystical light, and had visions of both past and future. He experienced incredible peace, joy, and harmony with the universe. He felt he came to a barrier he was not permitted to cross and was sent back. The experience included encountering mystical beings and hearing unidentifiable voices of unearthly origin.
