John B experienced a severe auto accident in December 1978 when a speeding car traveling over 80 mph hit him broadside at an intersection. The impact caused his head to strike and collapse the metal steering wheel. Despite severe injuries, he managed to escape his burning vehicle before it exploded. During his NDE, John rose out of his body with his back to the ceiling and heard doctors saying "we lost him." He observed them scrambling around his body. Rising higher, he could see his father sitting in the hallway trying to light his pipe in the hospital, with a nurse shaking her finger at him to stop. John thought to himself that his dad should know better. He then felt a force pulling him and accelerated smoothly through darkness toward a small dot of light. Moving at what seemed like light speed, he saw brilliant colored flashes like a kaleidoscope. The light expanded into a room where five hooded, glowing human figures stood. Though he couldn't see facial features, he felt plugged into everything and could see and hear through consciousness. They communicated telepathically, asking if he wanted to stay or return. John immediately chose to return, saying he would do whatever they wanted. He felt downloaded with awareness and knowledge about life, death, and what he calls "the dimensional move." After being sent back through the tunnel, he re-entered his body as doctors were shaking their heads. His return was marked by them exclaiming "We have a pulse!"
