Joan D experienced a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic in March 2003. Initially thinking it was due to lotion, she got in the shower to wash it off after taking Benadryl. She began having trouble breathing and became dizzy, eventually sitting in the tub facing the water. Her nine-year-old daughter saw her condition and ran to get her fiancé Tony, who immediately called 911. At the time, Joan's lips were blue, she was extremely pale with bulging eyes, though she didn't realize how critical her condition was. Tony kept talking to her, repeatedly saying "Stay with me Joan" as instructed by the 911 operator, until she lost consciousness upon seeing the paramedic arrive.
In the ambulance, Joan regained consciousness briefly with her eyes open but unable to move them. She heard the paramedic behind her say "I'm not getting a pressure" and the one beside her respond "What?!" followed by "I'm not getting a pulse." Everything then went black. During her NDE, she stood in total darkness with someone or something standing beside her. She felt incredibly happy with all problems lifted. Looking up, she saw beautiful bright stars that she could look at without being blinded. Some stars began coming toward her, and as they approached, they transformed into crosses which she thought were the most beautiful things she had ever seen, believing them to be angels coming for her. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The experience contains strong biblical symbolism with the stars transforming into crosses, representing the central symbol of Christianity and Christ's sacrifice.
