Jerald H experienced cardiac arrest in the emergency room on Easter Sunday, April 15, 2001, while homeless and living in a church parking lot with his family. After chest pain and calling 911, he was rushed to the cardiac unit where he consciously placed his faith in Jesus Christ, remembering a Bible study about the disciples in the storm. As he praised God and glorified Jesus, he clinically died, flat-lining for approximately eight minutes according to the attending physician.
During his death, Jerald found himself in incredible calm and peace, awash in light and feeling an overwhelming presence of love "as if I was but a cup, and an ocean of love was pouring into my soul." He felt complete awareness in this other realm with no thought of earthly connections. The return journey was traumatic - painful sounds like waterfalls (blood rushing back), bright lights, nausea, and electrical pulses as he was resuscitated. He was initially angry about being brought back. Following his NDE, Jerald experienced remarkable intellectual and spiritual transformation. He achieved a Bachelor's in Counseling, Doctorate in Divinity, Master's in Chaplaincy, became a U.S. Air Force Civil Air Patrol chaplain, wrote eight books, and worked in a cardiac unit. He noted belonging to the 0.3% who recover from cardiac arrest with enhanced intelligence.
