Bruce experienced an NDE on February 5, 2001, when he suffered an ischemic stroke that destroyed half his cerebellum. He fell to the floor in his bathroom and found himself in a pitch-black place. He was not afraid but amazed by the complete darkness.
Bruce felt the presence of other beings behind him, including his deceased grandmother and aunt, though he never saw their faces. They repeatedly urged him to go with them, even touching his shoulder trying to persuade him. Bruce became angry and yelled at them that he wasn't ready, refusing to go. He felt ashamed for potentially hurting their feelings as they seemed very sad. Upon returning to consciousness, he found his wife crying nearby.
