In June 1992, Charles experienced severe heartburn and was admitted to the hospital. At 3 AM, a heart monitor was attached. At 6 AM, his heart went into arrhythmia and then flatlined. During clinical death, he found himself engulfed in tremendously bright light with indescribable warmth, belonging, peace, and love multiplied thousands of times beyond earthly experience. He knew instantly he was "home" and didn't want to leave. He was told it wasn't his time, that he had much left to do and would need to care for his daughters. He was instructed to stay calm when he opened his eyes and that he would be home in four days. Upon revival, the head nurse saved his life. Catheterization revealed 85% and 95% blockages in arteries. Exactly four days later, he was released. A year later, he was struck by lightning which apparently healed his heart condition completely.
