In October 1978, the subject experienced cessation of heart function while lying down feeling light-headed. As a profoundly deaf individual, the medical crisis was sudden and complete.
The experience began with being pulled through total blackness into a churning tunnel with neon-blue walls reflecting light from his non-corporeal form. Despite being deaf, he heard a beautiful droning sound. He encountered deceased family members appearing as glowing transparent faces communicating telepathically. The tunnel contained floating bubbles showing three-dimensional "snapshots" of his life moments. He approached a shimmering Light which he understood as an energy gestalt - an aggregation of immortal souls from all life forms rather than a traditional singular God. The subject made specific observations about the Light's nature as a collective life force from which all life originates. He heard his grandmother's voice calling him back and was reluctantly pulled back to his body by an unseen force. Upon return, his soul vibrated as it entered what he described as "a poor fitting glove." The experience gave him greater zest for life, stronger religious conviction, and no fear of death.
