Black dogs, orbs in photos, spirit photography
This experience presents significant theological concerns. While the divine voice expressing love and purpose aligns with biblical themes, the hellish imagery doesn't match scriptural descriptions. The black dogs, underground stream of corpses, and orb-like spirit guide suggest influence from folklore or occult sources rather than biblical revelation. Most concerning is the post-NDE development of ability to see orbs and spirits in photographs, which resembles paranormal/occult practices rather than biblical spiritual gifts. The experience left Nick fearing damnation without any gospel message or redemption offered. The overall tone is more consistent with demonic deception or psychological trauma than divine encounter.
Nick S experienced an NDE after inhaling helium from a balloon at a video store and immediately blacking out. He felt himself falling into a very deep hole and landed in what seemed to be a pile of bones, feeling no pain but extreme fear. In complete darkness, he walked down stairs to an underground stream with a walkway beside it. Upon exiting the stairway, he heard moaning that gave him chills and saw dead bodies floating in the stream. Crying and terrified, he asked "Where am I?" Immediately, a bright light shone across what he calls the "tunnel of death," which felt soothing despite its brightness. Behind him appeared two black-coated dogs sitting on the walkway. Unable to turn back, he encountered an orb or spirit-like being in front of him. The being said, "You're not supposed to be here yet. Come with me and go back to your home. It's not your time." When Nick asked if he was dead, the being approached and he felt pulled toward the distant light. As he got closer, everything went dark and he felt himself falling upward. He heard a booming voice say, "I love you but you haven't experienced my gift to you yet. If you were to go now you would never get to see what it is like to..." before waking up at home with his family about to take him to the hospital. He was cold, clammy, and pale. Nick fears this experience means he's going to hell. Since then, he claims to see orbs in family photos and an image of his deceased grandfather standing next to him in one photo, which is being examined by researchers.
--- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The experience contains several biblical elements including the concept of appointed time for death ("It's not your time"), divine love expressed by the booming voice, and the notion of earthly purpose ("my gift to you"). The light providing comfort aligns with biblical descriptions of divine light. The authority of the voice and its message about unfinished earthly experience reflects biblical themes of divine sovereignty over life and death. Unbiblical elements: The hellish imagery of floating corpses, underground streams, and piles of bones, while frightening, doesn't match biblical descriptions of hell or Sheol. The two black dogs have no biblical precedent and suggest folkloric influence. The orb/spirit guide is ambiguous and doesn't clearly represent angels or divine messengers as described in scripture. The development of ability to see orbs and spirits in photos suggests occult or paranormal activity rather than biblical spiritual gifts. The overall atmosphere of fear without redemption or gospel message is concerning. |
