Dan was sixteen years old in August 2002 when he experienced a profound NDE following a car accident and subsequent allergic reaction to penicillin. While being driven home from the mall with his father, their car was sideswiped by a speeding vehicle and pushed into a transport trailer, dragged under for about two hundred feet. Dan was severely injured with head trauma while in the ambulance when a paramedic gave him medication containing penicillin, causing a severe allergic reaction.
Within seconds, Dan's vision went dark and he couldn't breathe, though he could still hear the paramedics panicking. Suddenly he could breathe again without effort and saw a small white light at the end of a tunnel with an orange glow. As he moved through the tunnel, he saw an image imprinted in his mind of the entire universe - appearing as a giant bluish see-through egg with millions of light points in different colors, all connected by darker blue links full of different kinds of life. He understood the "scientifics" of it instantly. The tunnel then filled with colors not on our spectrum, accompanied by gentle chiming music that seemed to sync with the color changes. He felt energized, happy, fearless, and knew the answers to everything. At the tunnel's end was a bright white room where he encountered his friend Brydon who had died five years earlier in a boating accident but appeared Dan's current age. Brydon communicated through thought: "Mistakes are made. He made one, and he'll pay with his job. This is not your time yet Dan, I'll see you later." Brydon then walked into the light. Dan was instantly "warped" back down the tunnel, falling into one of the light points on the cosmic egg. Breathing became difficult again as his normal vision returned. He heard a paramedic yell "He's back, he's back" and saw another with defibrillator paddles. Two weeks later, Dan learned the paramedic who administered the drug had lost his job.
