While containing some biblical elements like angelic beings and divine light, the experience is dominated by reincarnation theology, pantheistic philosophy equating humans with God, and explicit rejection of worship and church attendance. The multiple lives concept and pre-existence agreements directly contradict biblical teaching about one life followed by judgment.
Eight-year-old Richard L was riding his bicycle along a busy street in El Monte, California when he was struck by a 1962 Chevy Impala after his friend incorrectly told him the road was clear. The impact left him spread-eagled on the road with a broken leg, torn clothes, and he stopped breathing. A bystander performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to revive him. During his clinical death, Richard floated about twenty feet above his body, observing the scene below with strange detachment.
Richard witnessed remarkable veridical details during his out-of-body experience. He could hear both the spoken words and simultaneous thoughts of the people below - one man saying "Call an ambulance, he's not breathing!" while thinking "Oh my god, oh my god, don't die on me!" He observed a bright pearl-colored light with streaks of blue, pink, green, and gold opening above him, accompanied by a loud buzzing sound that became a whooshing roar as he was pulled through it at light speed. On the other side, Richard encountered three tall, slender beings in flowing robes who told him "You're not supposed to be here yet. You have to go back. You know what you agreed to." During an extended dialogue, they answered fifteen questions about the nature of reality, God, and existence. They explained that all beings are expressions of God, that separation is an illusion, and that this realm is home where all journeys begin and end. Richard saw familiar faces from many lives and times, experiencing a continuity spanning centuries.
