At age 12, Marcia drowned in a hotel swimming pool in Brazil when she fell into the deep end. After going under several times, she lost consciousness and experienced a 360-degree life review movie that went backward from the present to her birth, including all sensations, smells, and tastes. She then traveled through a spinning tunnel made of color-changing clouds toward a golden, embracing light. A hooded figure told her she wasn't supposed to be there but could continue if she wished. When shown her family in despair below and her blue body by the pool, she chose to return. She was deaf for fifteen days afterward and dreamed of the hooded figure nightly for three years, who became her spiritual guide. The experience eliminated her fear of death and led her to study physics and psychology.
