Jacob's experience presents significant theological challenges from a biblical perspective. While the encounter with angels and the experience of divine love could align with biblical accounts, the core elements of his NDE contradict fundamental Christian doctrine. The life review including past lives and the concept of reincarnation directly opposes the biblical teaching of one life followed by judgment (Hebrews 9:27). His interpretation of spiritual evolution through multiple lifetimes contradicts the biblical understanding of salvation through Christ alone.
His subsequent career as a past life regression therapist involves practices that many would consider incompatible with biblical Christianity. The concept that we are eternal souls experiencing temporary physical incarnations, while spiritually appealing, diverges from the biblical view of human creation and destiny. Though his dedication to helping others and his emphasis on love and consciousness could be seen as positive fruits, the theological framework within which he operates - including hypnotherapy to recover past life memories - represents a worldview fundamentally different from biblical Christianity. The absence of Christ or explicitly Christian elements, combined with Eastern religious concepts, places this experience outside orthodox Christian understanding.
Three-year-old Jacob Cooper was playing at a playground when he climbed to the top of a slide. Unknown to anyone, he had contracted pertussis (whooping cough), a potentially fatal condition for young children. At the top of the slide, Jacob suddenly lost his ability to breathe completely and his body shut down. He experienced what he described as a "gigantic crack, like thunder" as his consciousness separated from his physical form, entering what he called "the breath of eternity."

He encountered an endless sea of youthful, childlike angels floating peacefully and sending unconditional love and healing. During his life review, he saw a past life where he had ended his own life, and his current suffocation experience was presented as an opportunity for spiritual evolution through surrender rather than struggle. The veridical aspects included precognitive visions of his future. He saw himself helping many people as a healer and speaker, which later manifested when a woman with purple hair approached him at a yoga seminar and confirmed she saw him speaking to crowds as a healer. He also saw specific future events that came to pass. When given the choice to stay or return, he chose to come back after seeing his future mission. Upon returning, Jacob found himself surrounded by angels visible only to him at the playground. He told his father about the experience, saying it wouldn't make sense now but would later. The experience transformed him profoundly - he developed heightened intuition, became a clinical social worker specializing in past life regression therapy, and dedicated his life to helping others understand consciousness beyond death. His NDE gave him the certainty that we are eternal beings having temporary physical experiences. |
