This experience contains significant theological problems despite some positive elements. The positive aspects include recognition of God's existence as absolute reality (God Is), understanding that God's existence doesn't depend on human belief (reflecting God's self-existence), and transformation from doubt to certainty about God. The immediate presence in light could represent divine presence.
However, the statement that "the universe in its entirety is God" is directly pantheistic and contradicts biblical theism which maintains clear Creator-creature distinction. The Bible teaches God created the universe but is distinct from it, not that the universe IS God. The claim that "all is one and the same" further suggests monism incompatible with biblical teaching about God's transcendence. While the Bible teaches God's omnipresence (God is everywhere), it doesn't teach that everything IS God. This fundamental confusion between God's immanence and pantheistic identification of God with creation represents a serious theological error. The experience seems to have led to certainty about God's existence but misunderstanding about God's nature.
Jeremiah was undergoing surgery to repair a hernia when complications caused his heart to stop. This cardiac arrest during surgery created a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate medical intervention. Prior to this experience, he had believed in God but didn't think anyone or any religion truly understood what happens after death.
During his NDE, Jeremiah went directly to a place of light without any tunnel or sensation of travel. He understood that the universe in its entirety is God and all connected. There was complete connection and harmony with existence, though not absolute knowledge. He was personally in God's presence and fully conscious, experiencing God as something that simply Is—regardless of belief. The oneness is God; all is one and the same. He understood that God is all around us and in us on the earthly plane as well. The experience forever changed him. He now comprehends that while there is no absolute knowledge, God does exist as a certainty beyond faith or belief. God's existence is not dependent on human belief—God simply Is. This revelation transformed his previous uncertainty into absolute knowing based on direct experience rather than faith. Jeremiah's encounter emphasized the omnipresence of God, the interconnected nature of all existence, and the reality of God that transcends human religious understanding or belief systems. His experience moved him from questioning believer to certain knower. |
