Adrian L was at home with his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter in August 2004 when he suddenly felt extremely weak and ill. He managed to call his neighbor to watch his daughter. He believes he passed into a dream afterward with the same characters and settings, but recognized it as different from the NDE because it lacked the same feeling of contentedness. The experience gave Adrian comfort that "something is out there" after months of contemplating death and fearing it. However, it also caused him to doubt "the whole God thing" despite maintaining nominal Christian identity.
