Reincarnation, past/future lives, third eye, equal good and evil forces
This experience contains multiple elements that directly contradict biblical theology. The most problematic aspect is the explicit teaching about reincarnation through visits to past and future lives, which fundamentally opposes the biblical doctrine of one life followed by judgment (Hebrews 9:27). The guide's teaching that good and evil have equal power and strength contradicts the biblical truth of God's sovereignty and ultimate authority over evil. This dualistic worldview resembles Zoroastrianism or Eastern philosophy rather than biblical monotheism where God is supreme.
The reference to a "third eye" introduces occult and New Age concepts foreign to scripture. The idea that one can choose between equally powerful camps of good and evil undermines the biblical teaching about God's omnipotence and Satan's status as a defeated enemy. While the experience led to positive life changes and recovery from addiction, which could be seen as good fruit, the theological content directly contradicts core Christian doctrines. The absence of Christ, biblical salvation through grace, or acknowledgment of God's supreme authority, combined with explicit reincarnation themes, makes this experience incompatible with biblical Christianity.
Wesley, raised in an Episcopalian family, experienced a Type IV Less Than Positive NDE in his early twenties secondary to a drug overdose. Though playing brinkmanship with substances rather than explicitly attempting suicide, the entity he encountered helped him recognize the suicidal nature of his behavior. The experience included visits to both a previous lifetime and a future lifetime, providing unique perspective on his soul's journey.
One moment Wesley was in bed, the next he was out of his body moving through a grayish fog toward brightness - a light with no definition. He traveled through an enclosure without specific walls to a great space where he had non-verbal communication with a guide entity. The guide provided answers to his questions, explaining that there is equality and balance between good and evil, that one can choose which camp to be in, and that these forces have equal strength and power. He was given information about a "third eye" he couldn't fully remember later. Wesley visited two different lifetimes. In the previous lifetime, he saw himself cowering and crawling on the floor in jeopardy, with someone after him. In the future lifetime, he witnessed involvement in a war where people shot at each other with light rather than guns, like tracer bullets. The entity told him "You are one of the strong," which helped convince him to return. The guide emphasized that even though Wesley wasn't consciously overdosing, his behavior was suicidal and required courage to admit. The experience provided exactly what Wesley needed - seeing himself as a victim in a past life taught him he could choose not to be a victim now. Seeing himself as a warrior in a future life showed his potential strength. No life review occurred because Wesley had already judged himself. He consciously decided to return and has since entered a drug rehabilitation program, now doing very well in recovery. |
