While this experience contains some elements that could be interpreted within a biblical framework, such as the out-of-body experience and the transformative nature of the encounter, the theological conclusions drawn directly contradict core biblical doctrines. The experiencer's loss of Christian faith and adoption of religious pluralism - believing all religions are equally valid paths - fundamentally opposes Jesus's claim in John 14:6 to be the only way to the Father.
The development of psychic abilities including medical intuition and sensing tree consciousness aligns more with new age spirituality than biblical spiritual gifts. While the Bible acknowledges spiritual gifts, the specific manifestations described (predicting blood work, sensing what people need psychically, feeling tree consciousness) differ from biblical patterns. The concept that reality is primarily "vibrational and energetic" with all beings interconnected reflects Eastern mysticism or new age philosophy rather than biblical cosmology. The experience led her away from church and Bible reading entirely, unable to identify as Christian anymore, which from a biblical perspective would be seen as spiritual deception despite the powerful nature of the experience. The lasting rage and intolerance, though eventually subsiding, also contrasts with the fruit of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22-23.
In December 2015, a woman with Lyme disease complications and cardiac issues experienced a dangerous arrhythmia requiring emergency treatment and surgical intervention. After an initial angiograph showing structurally sound heart and vessels, she awaited an ablation surgery when she had a profound out-of-body experience that fundamentally transformed her worldview and abilities.
While in a regular hospital room with her husband and a family friend visiting, she predicted the arrhythmia seconds before it started. After declaring "Here it comes" and fading out, she felt a squeeze and snapped out through the top of her head at the fontanelle point. She immediately found herself against the ceiling looking down at the room. She observed the part in her visitor's hair from above, saw her husband's head, the nurse's head, and her own body in bed. She was startled to see her face as others see it (not mirror-reversed) and felt her body was like a discarded hermit crab shell. She felt sorrow for not treating her body with respect and knew she would return to it. Remarkably, she could perceive everyone's thoughts: the nurse was upset she'd been moved from ICU and feared she would code, her husband alternated between worry and denial while being terrified on a psychic level (she knew this would affect him long-term and he developed cancer within a year), and her friend was praying the Hail Mary repeatedly. She heard or sensed a voice saying "Everything is going to change." The experience lasted less than a minute before medications pulled her back into her body, feeling very heavy. The experience shattered her Christian beliefs about exclusive salvation through Jesus, replacing them with understanding that all religions serve their adherents' soul journeys and that reality is vibrational and energetic with all beings interconnected. She developed medical intuition accurately predicting family members' blood work and her husband's cancer before symptoms appeared. She experienced rage for 6-9 months at people wasting time, enhanced senses allowing her to smell and feel trees' consciousness, and ability to sense what people needed. The rage and driving intolerance gradually subsided, but she remains intensely focused on meaningful connections and has published books since her NDE. |
