This experience contains classic NDE elements including out-of-body observation, entering a realm of bright light, and profound lasting transformation. The experiencer accurately observed medical procedures and family members from an elevated perspective, demonstrating veridical perception. However, the theological interpretation is distinctly Hindu-Buddhist rather than biblical. The experiencer explicitly interprets the light as Brahman from the Upanishads, describing union with an impersonal absolute rather than encounter with a personal God. The merging where "differences between beings fell away" reflects Hindu non-dualism (Advaita) rather than biblical distinction between Creator and creation. Post-NDE, he embraced Buddha's eight-fold path rather than Christian discipleship. A Hindu man experienced severe complications 15 days after triple bypass surgery, developing uncontrollable coughing and deterioration requiring emergency hospitalization on New Year's Day. In the ER, he closed his eyes and felt surreal, floating above his body as a disconnected observer. He entered a place of bright, inviting light that he recognized as the blissful state described in the Upanishads - beyond misery and happiness. From above the hospital bed, he observed an elderly Indian man in his late sixties (himself) surrounded by four people including his wife Lakshmi. He was immersed in endless bright light through which all beings - animals, people, mountains, oceans - were entering and leaving. He mingled with the light and became one with it, beyond space and time. The bright light consumed everything, erasing perceived differences between beings as all merged into the same light. He witnessed the doctor ordering blood transfusion and being moved to Cardiac ICU while experiencing overwhelming love for all beings. The light began fading and he was told his time was up. He descended back into his body feeling hot and thirsty. The experience led him to embrace Buddha's eight-fold path and focus on compassion and service.
