This near-death experience contains both biblical and significantly unbiblical elements. The positive aspects include the tunnel of light experience, which some interpret as consistent with transitions to the afterlife. The encounter with beings of light who provided guidance could potentially represent angels or heavenly messengers. The overwhelming sense of love and peace, the loss of all negative emotions, and the transformative life changes following the experience show spiritual impact. The observation of souls at a transition point, with some being welcomed forward and others turned back, could reflect a form of divine judgment or readiness assessment. The download of knowledge to be revealed when needed has some parallel to spiritual gifts.
However, there are serious theological problems from a biblical perspective. The experiencer's "unbreakable belief in reincarnation and karma" directly contradicts the biblical teaching that "it is appointed for men to die once, and after this comes judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). Their pursuit of astrology as a career is problematic, as the Bible consistently condemns divination and astrology as occult practices. The concept that time is an illusion and one can travel to any period from the other side conflicts with biblical linear time and God's sovereign control over history. The absence of any mention of God, Jesus, or divine judgment is notable. The description sounds more aligned with New Age spirituality than biblical Christianity, particularly with the emphasis on reincarnation, karma, and astrology. While the experience was transformative, it led the person toward practices the Bible explicitly forbids.
In March 1994, the experiencer suffered a severe wrist injury in their Folkestone flat, with a three-inch wound cut to the bone through tendons. After calling for help and collapsing, they lost consciousness while friends tried to stop the bleeding and called an ambulance. In the emergency room, while a South African doctor was away on another emergency, their heart stopped from blood loss. The experience began with an amazing sense of relaxation and calm, with every negative emotion disappearing, creating a feeling a thousand times better than any earthly high. They found themselves in an electric blue tunnel, 2000 feet in diameter, floating gently toward a point of tremendous activity. The blue tunnel transitioned clearly into a white tunnel filled with overwhelming light and love, with instant knowledge that the white tunnel was one-way only. At the transition point, many souls were coming and going - some being welcomed with open arms into the white light, others in discussion, and some turned back. The experiencer was met by their own entourage of light beings who appeared human but were the same electric blue color. They were greeted with great love and urgency, held, and imbued with knowledge. They were told this wasn't their time but was meant to happen to change their life path. Vast knowledge was downloaded with the promise it would become available when needed. They learned that time is an illusion and from the other side one can travel to any period as easily as crossing a street. Despite the profound feeling of home, they had to return. The doctor revived them by punching their chest hard. They were clinically dead for at least 30 seconds though it felt like hours. The experience led to major life changes including losing their job and home, but ultimately led to spiritual growth and starting an astrology business. They now have unbreakable belief in reincarnation, karma, and no fear of death.
