A 39-year-old man who had childhood experiences with a spirit guide named "Mr. Cardine" from ages 3-8 had a near-death experience on July 14, 1995. After eating a peanut butter sandwich, he experienced severe anaphylactic shock from an unknown allergy that had caused hives for 21 years. At the hospital, he collapsed and required CPR while floating above his body watching the resuscitation efforts. A voice asked "Why have you worried so much in your life?" and "What good is it now?" referring to his body. He was enveloped in light from a star that formed into swirling colors creating an oval space. The voice said "Here is your assured home you built while you were living. Have you finished everything you want in this life?" Thinking of unfinished woodcarvings, he returned to his body, feeling the nurse's chest compressions. Mr. Cardine then showed him visions of evil people turning into clouds of light being drawn into tar-like beings, warning this would happen to his mother. On a third departure, Mr. Cardine said "We are going on a journey" and took him through darkness to encounter two massive living beings of increasing size who communicated with Mr. Cardine and looked at him with overwhelming love. Mr. Cardine said "You have chosen life. You will suffer as you help others" before he returned. The doctor had to repeatedly revive him with slapping and shouting. Each time he returned, he said "What in the hell am I doing back here?" The experience left him unafraid of death and with a strong desire to help others, believing his next home will be better the more he helps people.
