While this experience contains some biblical elements, the post-NDE practices raise serious theological concerns. Positive aspects include the golden being potentially representing an angel, as angels are described as beings of light who serve as God's messengers (Daniel 10:6 describes an angel with appearance like lightning). The message "it's not yet your time" aligns with God's sovereignty over life and death (Ecclesiastes 3:2). The overwhelming love and sense of home could reflect God's love and heavenly peace described in Scripture.
However, the claimed ability to repeatedly "cross over" between life and death to guide dying individuals strongly resembles mediumship and necromancy, practices explicitly forbidden in Scripture (Deuteronomy 18:10-12, Leviticus 19:31). The Bible teaches that humans die once then face judgment (Hebrews 9:27), not that living people can traverse between realms at will. This claimed ability to "step over the barrier between life and death" contradicts the fixed gulf between the living and dead described in Luke 16:26. Acting as a psychopomp or death guide is a role Scripture assigns to angels (Luke 16:22), not humans. While helping dying people find peace is compassionate, claiming supernatural ability to enter death's realm repeatedly suggests either dangerous spiritual deception or New Age practices incompatible with biblical Christianity. The absence of any reference to God or Christ combined with these mediumistic practices creates low biblical compatibility.
While riding a bicycle past a golf course, the experiencer saw a van run a stop sign and couldn't swerve away in time. Staring through the windshield at the driver while hoping they wouldn't brake, the collision occurred when the driver did stop. The impact sent them flying through the air like an awkward flightless bird. Upon hitting pavement, they observed an intensely bright column of white light emanating from their body's head and immediately recognized being outside their physical form before being sucked up the light column like an envelope in a pneumatic tube.
They arrived in a place of pure love - completely enveloping and immersive feelings of loving acceptance, calmness, and belonging/home. A golden light glowed in the distance which they needed and wanted to reach. As they stepped forward, a golden humanoid being without features or clothing blocked their path, radiating overwhelming calm and agape love. The being's right hand was raised palm-outward in a stopping gesture while communicating telepathically "You must go back." Despite the experiencer's devastation and pleas to stay in this place of love, the being shook its head maintaining the stop position, stating "It's not yet your time. You must go back." A horrible shrieking pierced their consciousness as they returned to their body lying on the street, screaming with EMTs and bystanders hovering while the van driver made a phone call. Though only gone seconds to perhaps a minute, the experience seemed much longer. The profound disappointment of missing something stupendous initially overwhelmed them. Since the accident, they've discovered a calling as a guide for dying individuals, stepping over the barrier between life and death to help others cross over. Understanding others' fears has helped overcome their own, particularly the fear it wasn't real. The ability to repeatedly cross over and re-experience those feelings eliminated the horrible disappointment of return. They now know what awaits after completing this life, removing all fear of death while enabling them to help others overcome their fears during transition. |
