Larry's extensive NDE contains both remarkable divine encounters and deeply problematic unbiblical elements. The positive aspects include the majestic vision of God on a throne with imagery reminiscent of Ezekiel and Revelation (bronze feet, rainbow, white robes), extensive revelations about creation, and a clear divine commission. The detailed observations during drowning and accurate awareness of resuscitation efforts support the experience's authenticity. His subsequent spiritual experiences and the traumatic childhood he endured add complexity to the narrative.
However, the experience is fundamentally compromised by explicit reincarnation theology - claiming three lifetimes with the same mother and memories of previous deaths and rebirths. This directly contradicts Hebrews 9:27 ("it is appointed for men to die once"). The concept of pre-birth soul agreements and contracts opposes biblical teaching about God's sovereign creation of each individual. While Larry identifies the Entity as the biblical God/Elohim, the theological framework presented is more consistent with Eastern religions or New Age spirituality than Christianity. The claim of negotiating his return and having autonomous spiritual abilities further conflicts with biblical submission to God's will.
On Father's Day 1954, five-year-old Larry was at a picnic with his family in a Redwood forest. His older brother coaxed him into a stream despite their father's explicit instructions to stay out of the water. The brother initiated a dangerous game of holding each other underwater. On the third round, the brother held Larry down and wouldn't let him up. Larry ran out of air and began drowning, gasping and taking water into his lungs.
Larry left his body to escape the pain, floating above the scene and observing his brother still holding his lifeless body underwater. He watched as his brother's expression changed from anger to fear, eventually releasing the body to float downstream where it snagged on a rock. When their father called for lunch, the brother screamed for help. Larry estimates he was deceased for over 20 minutes based on recovery time and his father's comments. Instead of experiencing the typical tunnel of light, Larry immediately found himself standing before a majestic Entity on a golden throne - whom he identifies as God/Elohim. The Entity wore white robes with a golden belt, had bronze-colored hands and feet, and was surrounded by pearl-white energy and a rainbow aura. Larry was shown holographic presentations of creation, his past lives (including two previous births to the same mother), and future events. He learned he had a specific purpose to guide his family through future events. After extensive revelations about creation, the universe, and his soul's journey, Larry negotiated his return with the understanding of his purpose. He returned above his father's left shoulder as CPR was being performed. His mother insisted he was returning despite medical opinion he was gone. Larry's subsequent life included numerous spiritual experiences, visions, and psychic abilities, though his childhood was marked by severe abuse and trauma from his family. |
