unusual non-angelic being, Wiccan background
Tammi's NDE presents significant challenges from a biblical perspective. While some elements could be seen as neutral or even positive - such as the loss of fear of death and recognition of life's temporary nature - the overall experience raises serious theological concerns. The being she encountered does not match biblical descriptions of angels, who typically appear as radiant beings of light or in human form. The greenish-grey, bat-winged creature more closely resembles cultural depictions of demons or fallen beings, though Tammi felt no fear and found comfort in its embrace, which creates theological confusion about the nature of spiritual beings.
The experiencer's Wiccan faith background influences the interpretation significantly. Her statement that "there is no one true religion except love and appreciation for Earth and all her children" directly contradicts biblical claims of Jesus as the only way to salvation (John 14:6). The absence of God, Jesus, heaven, hell, or any form of judgment in her experience presents a spiritual encounter divorced from biblical framework. The dark void setting lacks the light typically associated with godly encounters in scripture. While the experience brought peace and reduced fear of death, from a biblical standpoint this could represent spiritual deception, as 2 Corinthians 11:14 warns that Satan can masquerade as an angel of light. The lasting effect of finding earthly life burdensome compared to the peace of death, without any sense of divine purpose or mission, differs markedly from biblical NDEs that typically inspire greater purpose in earthly life.
Tammi experienced a stercoral ulcer perforation causing severe sepsis, requiring emergency exploratory surgery. She lost two-fifths of her colon and her spleen during the procedure. The initial pain felt like being sliced through the abdomen from hip to hip. After being prepped for surgery, she has no memory until finding herself in a dark void during what appears to have been a near-death experience during the operation.
In the void, Tammi encountered a unique being she doesn't believe was an angel. The being was tall with very long arms and legs, mottled greenish-grey leathery skin, and bat-like wings draped from his arms and attached to his torso. She never saw his face and experienced the scene from both her own perspective and a bystander's view from above and behind the being. Despite his unusual appearance, she felt no fear, only acceptance and readiness to release her life. The being reached out and gently wrapped his arms/wings around her, communicating without words. As the being pulled her into his embrace, she turned her head and rested her cheek on his chest, feeling peaceful, calm, and accepting of death. She felt sad about losing her family but knew they would be okay. The encounter felt both brief and eternal. Then she felt herself being pulled away from the embrace, with the being not resisting but holding on loosely as she was drawn back. Tammi awoke in the ICU still intubated, spending four days there followed by additional days in general care. The experience has profoundly affected her - she no longer fears death but struggles with daily life knowing the peace that awaits. She thinks about the experience every day and will never forget the being or any details. Life now seems trivial and temporary to her, with worldly concerns like wealth feeling unimportant compared to the peace she experienced. |
