In December 2012, Laura underwent a lithotripsy procedure for a kidney stone at a urology center. After being given general anesthesia and counting backward from 100, she went under around 93. The next thing she remembered was a woman's voice softly telling her, "You're not going to remember anything that has happened here when you wake up." She looked around and saw everything was gray but getting lighter, then felt pulled back into her body.
Laura regained consciousness to find an anesthesiologist and nurse yelling in her face and shaking her, their voices slowly becoming audible like turning up volume on a radio. The medical staff informed her she had been going into cardiac arrest, which was very stressful for her to comprehend. They told her she had experienced a serious cardiac event during the procedure. She sensed she wasn't alone during the experience and that someone protective had been with her throughout the event. The voice was not from the medical staff but from "a totally different place." She went somewhere but wasn't allowed to bring the memory back with her. When Laura returned for a follow-up weeks later, all the staff came to check on her, indicating she had given them "quite a scare." They all knew her story well, confirming the severity of her medical crisis. The experience strengthened her belief in life after death and her connection to nature. |
