While this experience contains many classic NDE elements - out-of-body experience, encountering deceased relatives, life review, and a realm of light - the experiencer's interpretation is entirely materialistic and non-religious. Tomasz explicitly remained an atheist after the experience, stating he doesn't believe in God and that "our world is of material origin." He believes life outside the physical body exists but hasn't been scientifically recognized yet, attributing spiritual phenomena to undiscovered physical properties of matter. This naturalistic interpretation directly contradicts biblical teaching about the spiritual realm, God, and the afterlife. Though the experience itself contains elements that could support biblical views (deceased relatives, another realm, consciousness surviving death), his atheistic framework and rejection of God make this incompatible with Christian theology. The experience did not lead to any spiritual awakening or recognition of the divine.
Tomasz was shot in a criminal attack in 2000 and brought lifeless to the emergency room where CPR was administered. After losing awareness, he awoke on the operating table observing medical procedures being performed on his body. He felt warmth and light, realizing deceased relatives were present as other beings suspended above his body. He communicated with these relatives who gave him advice on returning to his body. The time in the light was carefree, painless and peaceful. The entire space above the operating room was filled with strange light and warmth, like a hall or corridor serving as a gate to another life. After a conversation that felt more like a flow of information with his relatives, he made the conscious decision to return. Later when he brought flowers to thank the hospital staff, he recognized the specific doctors and nurses who had saved him, confirming his observations. He states he is no longer afraid of death and considers it a positive memory, though he remains atheist.
