Dr. Laurence Brock's NDE contains both biblical and problematic elements from a Christian perspective. Positive aspects include the encounter with a divine voice identifying as "your Father," which aligns with biblical references to God as Father. The overwhelming experience of love and compassion reflects biblical attributes of God (1 John 4:8). His sense of understanding everything momentarily parallels Paul's experience of receiving revelations too wonderful for words (2 Corinthians 12:4). The transformation leading to a life of service and helping others reflects biblical fruit of genuine spiritual encounter.
However, serious concerns arise from Laurence's syncretistic spiritual path following the NDE. His years of studying Sufism, practicing yoga, Tai chi, and meditation represent a mixing of religious traditions that contradicts biblical exclusivity (Exodus 20:3). His development of energy healing abilities and seeing "energy bodies" aligns more with New Age and occult practices than biblical healing through prayer and faith. His description of accessing the "Soul Level" and his current practice of connecting people to light "energetically" suggests metaphysical beliefs incompatible with biblical Christianity. While initially feeling connected to Mary and Jesus, he has embraced a universalist approach studying "many religions," contradicting Jesus's claim to be the only way (John 14:6).
In 1976, Laurence was living in Colorado and visiting his parents in New York. After drinking at a party, he pretended to be more intoxicated than he was as an excuse to leave his car at a young woman's house. Later, when driving back alone after his friend dropped him off, he fell asleep at the wheel and drove into a large tree. The impact was so severe that looking at pictures of the destroyed car later, he couldn't believe he had survived. He was unconscious for three days following the accident.
During his NDE, Laurence saw his body leaning against the tree with a police officer crouching down examining him. He was floating above the accident scene, surrounded by white light despite it being nighttime. Rather than going into the light, he felt he was already within it. He experienced everything being okay beyond his understanding, with a gentle breeze moving him upward. He felt profoundly good, benevolent, full of love and compassion. Suddenly he heard an authoritative voice say, "You have to go back, your Father wants you to stay." He understood this referred to God as Father and felt it was all right to return. While out of body, Laurence entered what he calls his "Soul Level" - his true spiritual self without the limitations of conscious mind. He was able to know and understand everything all at once. The feeling that everything is all right became a deep knowing about himself, everything, and everyone being REALLY all right and good. He experienced what some traditions call the divine ocean of love and compassion, though for him it was more like a white sky of love and compassion. Following recovery, Laurence's life journey became focused on connecting to this source of benevolence and serving others. He developed the ability to see light within people and help them connect to it both energetically and psychologically. He became Dr. Laurence Brock, using his healing abilities and insights gained from the NDE to help others access this source of well-being. |
