This experience contains significant elements that conflict with biblical teaching, despite some compatible aspects. The encounter with a gatekeeper and deceased relatives could align with biblical accounts of the afterlife, and the tunnel with distant light might represent transition to the spiritual realm. However, the experience is heavily influenced by Buddhist and Eastern religious imagery, including the Da Dao Cheng square setting and references to Buddhist or Taoist traditions rather than biblical descriptions. Most problematically, the experience led to beliefs directly contradicting scripture. The experiencer adopted reincarnation beliefs, stating everyone is learning until no more reincarnations are needed. This contradicts Hebrews 9:27 about dying once then facing judgment. The development of psychic abilities for predicting the future conflicts with biblical warnings against divination. The transformation from atheism to believing in multiple faiths contradicts biblical exclusivity of salvation through Christ. The complete moral reversal where everything previously thought right became wrong suggests relativistic rather than absolute biblical morality.
Ruei experienced two cardiac arrests within six months, both occurring during medical procedures. The first happened during a tilt table test when her heart went from racing to vibrating before arresting. She received emergency CPR but had no memory of the resuscitation. Instead, she found herself under a veranda in what looked like Da Dao Cheng square in Taipei, encountering anxious smoking men and a guide who seemed to be her deceased grandfather negotiating with a gatekeeper from another realm. She fell into a long dark tunnel that was cylindrical and elastic, changing size continuously. The darkness was unique - very dark yet bright, illuminated by distant light. She experienced herself as a ball or dot without body form, urgently wanting to reach the light where she felt all answers awaited. A loud mixed male-female voice called her to come back, and she was forcefully pushed, feeling her soul sucked back through her neck. The second arrest during an electrophysiology test showed six seconds of ventricular fibrillation on the monitor. The veridical elements include her awareness during the first arrest that medical staff said they pulled her back finally and a nurse grabbing her arm. During the second event, she heard specific numbers being called out before losing consciousness and was aware of the electric shock burns on her chest from defibrillation, later confirmed by doctors. Both experiences resulted in significant life changes, including a complete reversal of her moral values and ethical understanding. She developed enhanced intuitive abilities and could predict future events accurately.
