This childhood NDE before religious instruction shows spiritual reality but interpreted through non-biblical framework. The "collective conscious" or "oneness" where all beings merge contradicts biblical teaching of personal God and individual identity preservation. Her statement that "the supreme is not singular but all that ever was or will be" describes pantheism incompatible with biblical monotheism. Three-year-old Cheryl was held underwater in an upstairs bathtub by her mother in what she describes as a criminal attack. She fought physically as hard as her little body could, with her head opposite the faucet. Looking up through rippling water, she saw the bathroom light creating beautiful asymmetrical patterns through the waves overhead. There was a sound of beautiful silence, and for years afterward she heard beautiful symphonies in her head that she'd never heard before or since. She felt united with the world in incredible peace and joy, suddenly understanding everything about the universe. She knew she was no longer on physical earth, though couldn't explain how she knew everyone while knowing no one. She sensed presences and became aware of all beings - past, present and future. Not scenes but knowledge and sensations about her future came to her. She encountered the collective conscious or "oneness" where all have been and will be, describing it as mystical presences rather than individual beings. She was brought back unexpectedly through excruciatingly painful contractions as her mother, suddenly coming to her senses about what she'd done, tried to revive her. Three convulsive squeezes expelled water from her lungs while she gagged, choked and coughed desperately for air between contractions. This early NDE at age 3, before any religious instruction, gave her permanent understanding that everything is as it should be. |
