This childhood OBE contains both compatible and seriously problematic elements from a biblical perspective. The positive aspects include the basic out-of-body experience confirming consciousness beyond the physical body, which aligns with biblical teaching about the soul. Her increased devotion to Jesus and compassion following the experience represents positive spiritual fruit. The later vision of Jesus during emotional crisis providing comfort could represent genuine divine intervention. The loss of death fear aligns with Christian hope in eternal life. The enhanced perception and peaceful feelings during the OBE are consistent with many Christian testimonies. However, significant biblical concerns arise from her claimed development of mediumship and clairvoyance. Scripture explicitly forbids mediumship in multiple passages (Leviticus 19:31, Deuteronomy 18:10-12), identifying it as an abomination. These practices involve attempting communication with the dead, which the Bible condemns regardless of intent. While spiritual gifts are biblical, mediumship and fortune-telling are explicitly listed as occult practices to avoid. Her description of being a "spiritual healer" could be biblical if referring to prayer-based healing, but combined with mediumship suggests new age practices. The relatively minor nature of the injury (baseball to head) compared to other NDEs raises questions about whether this was a true near-death experience versus a concussion-related phenomenon.
At age 9 in 1969, Bonnie was playing baseball in the backyard when a pitched ball struck her directly in the forehead, knocking her unconscious. Instantly upon falling, she found herself out of her body and up in the treetops, looking down at the neighbors' mother leaning over her fallen body trying to revive her. She described the experience as delightful and completely familiar, feeling wonderful to be free of her body. The treetops seemed like a friendly, welcoming place. She experienced profound elation, wonder, incredible peace and joy, feeling united with the world. Time seemed suspended during the experience - while events unfolded below, the space she occupied had no time. Her vision was enhanced, able to see clearly all the way to the ground from high in the air. She noted that the neighbor's mother who attended to her never told Bonnie's parents about the incident, which Bonnie found strange since she had witnessed her there. After returning to her body, she has never been concerned with dying. The experience shaped her entire life from childhood, leading to increased devotion to Jesus and greater compassion. She later developed multiple spiritual gifts including healing abilities, mediumship, and clairvoyance, though she's uncertain if these existed before the NDE. Years later during an emotional crisis, she saw Jesus's face in lights outside her window, which restored her completely and continues to provide comfort.
