This traumatic NDE presents low biblical compatibility despite some positive elements. The biblically consistent aspects include prayer to God in crisis being answered, experiencing divine love and presence, transformation from atheism to belief in God, and eventual healing and recovery from trauma. The experience brought certainty of God's existence and the afterlife. However, significant concerns exist from a biblical perspective. Michelle explicitly embraces reincarnation, stating "I do believe in Reincarnation." She adopted religious universalism, saying "I really believe in all Religions" and that differences between faiths don't matter. She practices yoga as a spiritual discipline to reconnect with the divine experience. She moved from atheism through the NDE to a syncretic spirituality combining multiple religious traditions rather than biblical Christianity. The anomalous lights witnessed by others during the attack, while interesting, could be interpreted various ways. While God's love protected and transformed her during horrific trauma, her post-experience theology embracing reincarnation and religious universalism directly contradicts biblical teaching about salvation through Christ alone and the finality of death before judgment.
Michelle and friends had run away and were living in a van in Seattle. While sleeping alone under a tree in Greenway Park, she woke to find a man watching her. Though frozen with fear, she tried to stay awake until daylight but fell asleep as the sun rose. She woke to the man strangling and raping her, choking her until her bladder emptied. While being strangled, she prayed "Please don't let me die like this." She was then enveloped in the lightest light imaginable that didn't hurt her eyes despite her sensitivity to bright light. She felt the most intense love and peace she had ever experienced, feeling without body and both within space and as space itself. She felt a deep connection to God's love and peace, becoming one with them. When her eyes opened, the attacker said "I did not mean to kill you," suggesting she appeared dead. Her boyfriend and friend witnessed strange lights in the sky that night - two lights descending then separating horizontally like footballs. At the hospital, the whites of her eyes were completely red from strangulation. The experience completely changed her view of God's existence and led to lasting PTSD but also spiritual transformation, eventually finding healing through therapy and yoga where she occasionally glimpses the same divine love.
