Became agnostic after experience
While this experience contains some elements common to NDEs such as the out-of-body experience and awareness of presences, the spiritual outcome is concerning from a biblical perspective. The experience led Lisa away from Christian faith to agnosticism, denying the existence of God. The presences she sensed did not identify themselves or provide any spiritual guidance. From a biblical standpoint, experiences that lead people away from faith in God would be viewed with suspicion. The lack of any divine or heavenly elements, combined with the ultimate rejection of God's existence, makes this experience problematic from a biblical perspective. True encounters with the divine typically strengthen faith rather than destroy it.
During her third C-section in February 1994, Lisa had an allergic reaction to medication administered through her epidural. After the anesthesiologist gave her the drug, she lost blood pressure and consciousness. She suddenly found herself in the corner of the hospital room looking down at her own body. She could see her husband standing by a couch near the window, appearing extremely pale. She was aware of presences on both sides of her but they did not communicate. The out-of-body experience seemed to last a few minutes to her, though it was actually less than a minute. She returned to her body as suddenly as she left it, finding nurses around her bed taking vitals. Her husband confirmed he had been pushed away from the bed by nurses during the emergency. The experience left her with a strong belief in an afterlife and changed her religious views from Lutheran to agnostic.
