On a rainy night in February 2015, John S was speeding in a car with a friend when he had no seatbelt and unsheathed knives on the floorboard. During the car accident, time seemed to stop momentarily - he saw a knife hanging in mid-air and threw himself in front of it to protect his friend. The knife entered his skull, and he saw stars before darkness washed over him. In the darkness, John felt a vast nothingness but sensed an evil presence. He shouted to go back, saying his friend needed him. Then he felt himself descending fast and saw himself limp with his friend frantic. He was enraged he couldn't comfort his friend. A disembodied voice asked "Why do we live?" and John replied about being part of something greater. A shadowy figure outlined in rain appeared, stating man was put on earth to find their own way. The figure laughed like lightning and said it had admired John's thinking, telling him to return to the living and that it would keep watching. John took the deepest breath ever and screamed in pain upon return. He received over 30 staples for his injuries. Though formerly atheist, he now believes in a higher power and has experienced the voice again warning him of danger, wondering if his dog might be a conduit for this communication.
