Setian philosophy, self-deification, rejection of God
This experience is fundamentally incompatible with biblical Christianity. While it contains the structural elements of an NDE (out-of-body experience, otherworldly realm, life review, and profound transformation), the spiritual interpretation and outcome directly oppose biblical teaching. Jacob's rejection of the universal light/energy and demand for his own separate spiritual existence represents the ultimate pride and self-deification that the Bible identifies as the core of sin.
The experience led to explicit rejection of God's existence, claiming "we are god" which echoes Satan's original temptation in Genesis. His embrace of Setian philosophy (based on the Egyptian god Set/Satan) and antinomian spiritual dissent represents deliberate rebellion against divine authority. The conscious rejection of unity with the divine in favor of individual sovereignty contradicts the biblical call to surrender to God. His statement about avoiding "herd mentality and religious f***ers" and emphasis on self-responsibility without God demonstrates complete spiritual rebellion. This appears to be a deceptive spiritual experience leading away from God rather than toward Him.
Jacob, a high-functioning addict with hyperthyroidism, experienced cardiac arrest after a six-month binge of drinking and drugging in July 1989. After days without sleep and heavy drinking, he felt his heart beating irregularly before it felt like it exploded. He observed his body floating above it, then found himself at the edge of a black amphitheater looking across the universe at a vortex of white fire spiraling through space, resembling nuclear power generator electricity.
Voices from the vortex called him to join the energy, but Jacob firmly said "NO! I want my own." A slim pillar of white fire appeared separate from the large one, which he claimed with satisfaction as his. A voice said "It is not your time; you may remain if you wish though." Despite wanting to stay, he thought of his 8-year-old daughter who needed him and chose to return. His girlfriend found him covered in purple and black splotches after 15 minutes without breathing, beating him and swearing at him for dying in her bed. It took 3-4 hours before he could walk. His doctor said he shouldn't be alive. Jacob couldn't drink or use drugs after that moment and has led an examined life since. The experience led Jacob to completely reject Judeo-Christian beliefs, embracing Setian philosophy focused on individual sovereignty and antinomian spiritual dissent. He believes there is no God, that "we are god," and gained certainty about creating his own spiritual destiny separate from universal oneness, which he explicitly rejects. |
