Vernon explicitly states his experience confirmed his beliefs that there is no heaven, hell, or judging God, which fundamentally opposes biblical doctrine about the afterlife and divine judgment. His statement "here we go again" and belief in reincarnation conflicts with the biblical teaching of one life followed by judgment (Hebrews 9:27). Vernon was swimming in Gold River with two friends when he was swept into a fast current where two rivers converged. He went under multiple times and drowned. During the experience, Vernon found himself floating hundreds of feet above, watching his body tumble down the river. He was amazed that despite drowning, he could still see, think, and wonder, realizing consciousness persists beyond physical death. Rising higher, he turned and saw a brilliant light. He was taken to a room and shown his entire life on a screen, experiencing every moment frame by frame with its cause and effect, feeling complete peace without judgment. He was told he had to return. Descending back, he saw his body caught on a tree with his head above water. As he re-entered his body, he was pulling himself out using tree branches. Vernon walked to town, collapsed at a friend's house, and slept for three days. His friends never knew he had drowned, thinking he was waving to join them. The experience confirmed his existing beliefs about reincarnation and the absence of heaven, hell, or a judging God.
