This complex experience contains both biblical and problematic elements. Positive aspects include possible encounter with Jesus (hand in wool garment), seeing what might be Moses and Peter around a divine orb, and experiencing different spiritual realms with increasing worthiness requirements. The tunnel with fires could represent hell or judgment. However, the experience strongly suggests pre-existence of souls choosing their life circumstances before birth, which contradicts biblical teaching that God creates each soul. The beach scene with infant beings selecting difficult life situations (alcoholic parents, etc.) implies reincarnation or pre-mortal choice, concepts foreign to biblical theology. The notion of proving worthiness through levels contradicts salvation by grace. While the experience includes possibly biblical figures and realms, the overall framework of pre-existing souls choosing earthly lives fundamentally conflicts with biblical anthropology and soteriology. The experience seems to blend Christian imagery with non-biblical concepts of soul pre-existence and choice.
As a child in 1961, Matt fell from a tree about 10 feet, landing flat on his back and losing consciousness. He found himself in a dark cave-like tunnel with fires visible ahead. He saw silhouetted figures that appeared old with "bad energy." A young woman in black and white stepped forward with loving kindness, telling him "go back, you don't have to come up here!" A hand on his left shoulder (possibly Jesus, wearing thick wool-like garment) guided him through the tunnel wall into a brightly lit area with a golden glowing orb. Five or six translucent men stood around the orb, including one with a beard appearing late twenties and another elderly with longer beard. A voice asked "are you worthy of this level of existence?" - his doubt transported him to increasingly larger realms. He saw a golden road between blue glass hills, then a beach with millions of infant-sized beings. A storm cloud voice asked questions like "Who wants to be born of alcoholic parents?" - beings would fly into darkness in response. Matt ran to the beach's end, heard his own question, flew into darkness, experienced a birth process, then woke up. The experience included pre-birth memories and possible religious figures like Jesus, Moses, and Peter.
